Our activities

Rainbow Seniors peer groups , intended for people over 50,  who

seĺf-identify as part of LGBTIQA+.

Our guiding principle is to provide discussions in safe and confidential

environment.

The groups are peer-supportive by nature, and topics important to the

participants are discussed. Activities are planned together.

The principles of our groups always include confidentiality, the right

to self-determination or right to stay undefined, and mutual respect.

The peer activities have their own email :

ryhmatoiminta@sateenkaariseniorit.fi

This same email also receives group registrations if necessary.

Our organization

From the beginning (2021), we have been actively working on advocacy

and offering peer activities to senior LGBTIQ+ people.

During the presidency of chairman Risto Hartikainen, a wide network of

partners was created, including the The Finnish Association for the

Welfare of Older Adults , the City of Helsinki,  Reality Research

Center, Sirkus Magenta. We have gained visibility and expanded our

activities country-wide.

Our peer activities include numerous remote, hybrid and local groups.

There will be local groups in Helsinki, Turku and Oulu in spring 2025

(in cooperation with The Finnish Association for the Welfare of Older

Adults ). People living abroad also participate in remote groups.

In addition to groups, our activities include trips, theater and art

exhibition visits. We participate in Pride and other LGBTIQ+ around

Finland.

According to the survey, the most important form of peer activity is

meetings in groups. Discussions with people from the same minority are

really meaningful to many people. Group meetings may be the sole

opportunity for some to participate safely as they are.

The principles of a safer space serve as a guideline in all groups.

Information about group activities can be found on the association's

Group Activities page.

We welcome you!
